Fire god pendant

As an element of nature, el fuego tenía su Dios particular, una divinidad solar, y por lo tanto, asociado al calendario, que los aztecas llamaban Huehue-téotl, o “el Dios viejo”, debido a su antigüedad.

También se lo llamaba Xiuhtecuhtli, que quiere decir –entre muchos significados- “Lord of the year”, and he was represented as a seated old man carrying a brazier on his head to light the fire.

Xiuhtecuhtli had a female counterpart called Xiutecihuatl or “lady of the year.”, and both were personifications of the fathers of the Gods of humanity.
